Not just being, but making the change we want to see

I can’t believe I found this. It’s about everything we need to do to change the world and about how creativity can help us do it. All told in a lovely British accent. With Legos.

Everyday experience and creativity….Craftsmanship leads to self-esteem.

Technology…could it make a difference; obviously it can; we are not going to change anything until we accept the huge scope of our world today. The dependency, is it a form of complacency?

I recall a teacher in grade school discussing the relative return on our income taxes. She relayed to us that after it comes back it is less than a dollar. That’s a matter of value added and conversely value removed. I cannot remember the exact amounts, it was the Nixon administration. Today Ohioan get I believe $1.12 back from the federal government for every dollar in federal tax. That’s all a matter of donor States and recipient States, we are now a recipient State. I believe it was about $.075 for every dollar in the seventies. So we donated $0.25 to fund other States and revived back $.075 in funding, that’s back in the 70’s.

The point is that technology used to track ratios is useful.

Having access to your own personal cost of living function would be very useful. Then people could compare relative ratios and then discuss way to improve them. That’s all about the income less the obligations. Each component of that function, that being the Total Cost of Living Function, is in fact a ratio.

Are we really going to preoccupy the most talented programmers with social media project? Before we have fully integrated relational databases?

It is very simple if the cost of living falls faster than wages, which need to come down, then the result is a more competitive nation. The key to success in that is not to compromise our standards. To maintain high standards in design and quality. That so we can be better for less and be very proud of that.
