What I find interesting in these mashups is their true multimedia nature. They are, unlike typical music videos, incapable of being broken down or separated into constituent parts without a concomitant degradation of meaning. The images, of course are powerful in and of themselves, but the “narrative” voice over and music provide a contextual bed for those images. Take away the images, and the remainder is significantly less than the whole.
